Sinister Intentions - Chapter 2
by slyleather
Chapter 2It was almost 9 o’clock Sunday night when Tyler pulled into the Roadhouse Bar & Grill, usually it was six or seven when he reached his halfway point between Calverton and the city. However, this Sunday he was way behind his usual schedule because he had spent all day with his fiancé, Lori, and her family preparing for the wedding. He pulled into the old refurbished service station and walked in. He just decided that he would relax for about 20 minutes before heading on to the city. He slipped his leather jacket of and draped it over the back of the barstool before taking a seat. No sooner had he sat down than Shane, the 23-year old bartender slash waiter, noticed him and Tyler thought that he saw a sigh of relief on Shane’s face as he walked over to where Tyler was sitting. “Running late tonight?” Shane asked walking over to where Tyler was sitting.
“Yeah, had a lot of shit to get done today if I’m getting married in a few weeks.” Tyler replied.
“Burger and fries?” Shane asked in anticipation of Tyler’s wants.
“Nah, I’ve eat all day and I can stay long. Gotta get back, last week of school. Um, just bring me a beer if ya don’t care.” Tyler stated courteously.
“No problem.” Shane replied as he turned and walked over to the cooler in his Levi’s, and leather vest, as he reached in the cooler for Tyler’s beer, he glanced over at Brennan sitting in the corner booth. Tyler had paid little attention to anyone else in the bar as he was exhausted from the day and anxious to get back.
Brennan stood up and walked toward Tyler, as he got closer Tyler could see that he had on jeans and a leather zip-up vest with his sunglasses again. Tyler noticed some new things about Brennan that he had both ears pierced and extremely short black hair. His hands were adorned with silver rings and both wrists were encased in leather bands. He also had a few tattoos on his shoulders and left arm. They were the usual tat’s that Tyler had seen on guys, chains around the biceps, a couple of different Chinese symbols and tribal markings. He sat down next to Tyler as Shane brought two beers, popped their tops and walked away without saying a word.
“I only wanted one.” Tyler seemed puzzled by the two beers.
“This one’s for me. Shane keeps me well supplied when I’m here.” Brennan remarked sitting adjacent to Tyler then asking, “How’s it goin’ tonight? Tyler isn’t it?”
“Yeah, not a bad day, but I’m running late tonight and just needed a few minutes to relax.” Tyler replied. Brennan nodded his head in acknowledgment as he pulled a cigar from inside his vest pocket and lit it. Tyler watched as he took a drink of his beer.
“Your name’ Brandon, was that right?” Tyler asked having trouble remembering things from Friday night.
“Brennan.” Brennan corrected.
“Sorry about that man.” Tyler said taking another drink of his beer.
“That’s okay, just remember there’s no D and an E, not an A.” Brennan explained as took a draw from his cigar and a drink of his beer. He reached inside his vest and pulled out a second cigar and said, “Since your relaxing smoke one with me.”
“Sure, why not?” Tyler asked rhetorically. He took the cigar from Brennan’s hand and put in his mouth. He reached to his jacket pocket for his lighter until Brennan pulled out his butane lighter and struck it. Tyler leaned over to the flame and lit his cigar. Tyler had only smoked three cigars in his life. One of his college roommates got married last year and they shared a cigar at the reception, one was with his dad when he told them he was getting married to Lori and the other was after his initiation into his college fraternity. Tyler drew in on the big cigar and inhaled deep. It was good.
“Good cigar huh.?” Brennan inquired as Tyler took another draw and he took one of his own.
“Not bad.” Tyler answered and took another draw, “Not bad at all.” The two sat there smoking their cigars and drinking their beers, not really talking about anything substantive. Talk was mostly about Tyler, what his life was like, what his plans for the future were and how much he was in love with his fiancé, Lori.
“I am so thrilled that my time in the city is done and I can move back home, marry Lori and hopefully start a family.” Tyler told Brennan as he saw Shane approach with two more beers. Tyler reached into his pocket to pay for the beer and Brennan countered.
“I got these man.” Brennan reassured him and asked, “Boy you really are excited to be getting married?”
“Thanks, I really do love her the only thing she and I have ever argued about is that after we get married and before we have kids she wants me to quit smoking.” Tyler continued, “I really don’t see it as big hurdle, I only smoke…maybe…..two or three cigarettes a day and some days I don’t smoke at all, but she said it would set a bad example for our kids and I understand that. So, that’s something to deal with down the road.” He took the last drink from his beer and looked at his watch. Damn, he thought. He’d only meant to stay about twenty minutes and it had been over an hour. “I gotta go!” he exclaimed, “I’ve still got a two hour drive and work early in the morning. It’ll be after midnight before I get back.” Tyler said getting up from the stool and putting on his leather jacket.
“Didn’t mean to keep ya so long, just looked like you were starting to relax a bit.” Brennan stated.
“Nah, it’s all right, I did need to unwind a bit and sorry you had to listen to all my shit.” Tyler apologized.
“Forget it.” Brennan shot back.
“By the way, thanks for the beer and cigar, maybe if I through here again I can return the gesture, listen I appreciated it.” Tyler said.
“Ahh, like I said don’t worry about it.” Brennan replied and asked, “You’ll be back through this weekend on your way home won’t ya?”
“Yeah, sometime, probably Saturday though, I still have to finish packing and turn in my files and records at school.” Tyler returned.
“Well……… tell ya what, if you stop by Saturday night you can buy me two beers. How ‘bout that?” Brennan told him.
“Sounds like the least I can do for a man who bought me two beers and gave me a damn good cigar.” Tyler said. Brennan and Tyler shook hands. Tyler smiled and waved to Shane who was at the other end of the bar and left.
Brennan glanced through the side window and as he saw Tyler’s truck start and back out of the parking lot, he reached into his vest and pulled out another cigar and lit it. He motioned with the nod of his head for Shane to come to him. Shane came to the down to the other end of the bar and stood in front of Brennan. Brennan reached over and pulled a pen out of Shane’s pocket, grabbed a napkin and wrote some numbers down on it, then folded the napkin and handed it to Shane, putting the pen in Brennan’s own pocket. “Call that number and tell him to make preparations for Saturday night.” He instructed Shane.
“Yes, Sir.” Shane acknowledged, “I will make the call immediately.”
“I want you to go into the city Thursday and find him….casually meet him and make sure that he stops by Saturday night.” Brennan instructed.
“Yes, Master.” Shane said and watched as Brennan got up and walked toward the restroom with his cigar. Shane pulled out his cell phone and made the call relaying Brennan’s instructions. Once he had finished the call he looked around to make sure the five or six people left in the Roadhouse Bar & Grill didn’t need anything from the bartended, he quietly slipped from behind the bar to the restroom. He was hoping that he would receive a reward for his referral of Tyler as a candidate, but the deal wasn’t sealed yet and there was still a long ways to go and he may still be punished for other actions of late. However, that didn’t matter to Shane because he existed to serve his Master and as he entered the bathroom and quickly discovered……………………. Reward.
